Lauren M. Thompson
Welcome to my Portfolio
I am an undergraduate student at the University of Southern California dual majoring in Psychology and Public Relations/Advertising. USC Annenberg is often placing #1 for Communication & Media Studies in rankings like QS World University Rankings, and top-five for U.S. journalism programs by outlets like NewsPro. Programs like its Public Relations offering have received awards, such as the PRWeek Outstanding Education Program award.
I bring strong, transferable public relations skills suited for PR agencies and journalism roles. I have experience interviewing sources, writing clear and engaging journalism-style articles, designing visual assets & graphics, and presenting ideas to both small teams and large audiences.
I am comfortable with public speaking, digital media, client communication, event planning, and I have worked in fast-paced, collaborative environments where storytelling, strategy, and audience awareness are important. My diverse background in PR has strengthened my ability to pitch ideas, craft unique stories, and communicate professionally across platforms. I have taken courses on journalism, the audience, social media, public relations writing, fashion, marketing trends, business pr, and even celebrity pr courses- to scientific and medical journalism/pr courses at USC.
I have experience working in collaborative research and communications environments, including participation in PRSC- a student-run PR firm, creating media kits, and developing science-backed promotional materials. I enjoy translating complex topics in psychology, neuroscience, statistics, and public health into messaging that feels personal, understandable, and grounded in evidence. I have performed well in statistics classes and worked on data analysis, including biomedical and health data. I am especially interested in supporting research through participant recruitment, study promotion, research assistance, and communication strategies for labs and public health programs and funding. I currently intern at Enigma Worldwide Medicine (Lab) helping with the public relations efforts, events, and outreach.
I have a strong interest in public health, research, and science-based communication. My goal is to combine psychology, neuroscience, and public health research with clear, accessible, and ethical communication that helps research reach the right audiences. I plan to apply for a Master of Public Health (MPH) and am deeply passionate about advancing clinical psychology and neuroscience research, funding, and public understanding. I am eager to contribute to research teams that value scientific rigorous communication.

My Passion for Science Funding
Moments like this are why I want to go into science funding, hospital pr, and public health- where storytelling, research, and community can truly change lives. ❤️ Parkinson’s disease is a neurological disorder that affects the brain’s ability to control movement due to the loss of dopamine-producing neurons. As these brain cells decline, it leads to symptoms like tremors, stiffness, and slowed movement, impacting both physical and cognitive function over time. Thank you so much to the generous family who funded this and made this possible! 🧠
